Have you ever wondered how Santa can get around everyone’s house without making a sound? This arrangement of Up on the Housetop is a musical depiction of what it would sound like if Santa was caught sneaking around. Every instrument gets an opportunity to shine in this piece, either by playing the melody, or getting short solis.

A HOLIDAY FESTIVAL – Grade: 1.5
A Holiday Festival is a multi-cultural holiday piece including songs representing Christmas, Ramadan, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. The piece opens with a bold entrance of Deck the Halls before moving into a song titled Eid Mubaruk, an original piece inspired by Arabic music. It then moves into an arrangement of a traditional Hebrew song Hanukkah, Sov, Sov, Sov. Afterwards, another original piece titled, Umoja, Nia, Imani, inspired by African grooves and feels is performed, following by a full arrangement of Deck the Halls to close the entire medley.
HANUKKAH SWING – GRADE: 1.5
This is a fun, traditional Hanukkah song arranged in a jump swing style. From beginning to end, the chart is full of high energy, and incorporates hints of classic swing tunes. Although there is a written solo for the trumpet, chord changes are included, allowing opportunity for improvisation.

Santa’s Sleigh Ride is a creative arrangement of Up on the Housetop as it would be heard in various cultures from around the world. The original melody has been mixed with traditional songs or has been modified to fit the style of music well known to these cultures. After a short introduction, Mambo on the Housetop kicks into a catchy, latin flavoured version of this children’s favourite Christmas carol. There is a written out solo included for Trumpet.
‘TIS THE SEASON TO GET FUNKY – EASY
Tis the Season to Get Funky (Deck the Hall) is a slower, laid back version of the popular Christmas song. This is a clever and creative treatment of a holiday favourite.
SILENT NIGHT, ROCKING NIGHT – EASY
This version of Silent Night is arranged in 4/4 (as opposed to the original triple metre), to create the feel of a rock ballad. This is a great twist on a holiday classic.
THE ROCK OF AGES (MA’OZ TZUR) – EASY
Maoz Tzur (Rock of Ages) is a traditional Hanukkah song that celebrates the Maccabees fight for freedom. This arrangement is composed in the style of a bossa nova and is a nice light alternative to include in a holiday set.
JINGLE BELLS BOOGIE – EASY-MEDIUM
Jingle Bells is arranged in the style of rockabilly artists such as Bill Haley and the Comets and Elvis Presley. There are few short solo moments for Trumpet.

The classic New Year’s Eve tune Auld Lang Syne is arranged here in three different styles for your ensemble to choose from: Traditional (Rock Ballad), Swing and Bossa. Each version starts with a short introduction and moves into the main melody of the song using using unison rhythms with lush harmonies. The Bossa and Swing versions include written solos, but chords are included if improvised solos are preferred. Optional Drum Set part is included.
CAROL OF THE BELLS – MEDIUM
Unlike the original composition, this arrangement is written in common time and opens by setting up the feel of the tune with a descending bass line and accompanying chords. Written solos have been provided, but chords are also included in case performers would prefer to improvise a solo. As the chart progresses, it converts into its original metre of 3/4, creating a jazz waltz feel and builds to it final climax. Optional Drum Set part is included.
COME SWING, ALL YE FAITHFUL – MEDIUM
This chart was arranged using the style of a modern big band. It is meant to be played in the same fashion as a loud, brassy soli section so players can really let loose!
DREIDEL BOOGIE – MEDIUM
This arrangement of the classic children s Hanukkah song is written in the style of 1950s rockabilly music and includes all the elements from the Boogie Woogie bass line to the traditional guitar riffs.
GLORY TO THE GOOD JUMP SWING – MEDIUM
This jump swing version of Hark the Herald Angels Sing will definitely get the toes of listeners tapping. The tuba introduces the style, by playing a bass line a la Sing, Sing, Sing. Each instrument enters with the same riff that the tuba introduces at the beginning of the piece. Fun!
GOOD KING WENCESLAS – MEDIUM
Good King Wenceslas is arranged using the rockabilly style from the 1950s. The bass part utilizes a standard boogie bass line, while the middle accompanying parts emulate a standard guitar pattern often used in this style of music. Blues changes are used in the solo section that can be either improvised, or follow the written solos. Optional Drum Set part is included.

We Three Kings has been set here as an upbeat, jazz waltz. The tuba, trumpet 2, and horn introduce a variation of the traditional oom-pa-pa feel of a waltz. The melody is passed between the trombone and trumpet 1. Something a little different in the Christmas gig books.
